G Paramashivaiyya, a committed retired high ranking Government technocrat passionately remembers his pet project that he had painstakingly worked out and proposed to the Government of Karnataka that aims to divert a portion of the water of the west flowing rivers of the state into the deep east, where it will be used for drinking purposes and to recharge ground water levels.

The 'Netravati River Diversion Project' later renamed as the 'Yatthinahole Project' is a inter river basin water transfer project aimed at fulfilling the drinking, irrigation and industrial water needs of the parched plains of central and western Karnataka. This is being implemented despite wide scale environment and feasibility concerns.
